THE EMERALD LAKE OF FORBIDDEN RED
Location: Array
Duration: Day Trip
Departure: MIRI
  • In the morning, depart from the city for an overland drive of about 1 hour 20 minutes to Loagan Bunut National Park.

  • The lake, fed by local rivers, shrinks during the dry season (May–October), revealing vast mudflats. Visitors can walk across the dried lake bed and enjoy views of the peat swamp forest.

  • Several trails allow exploration of the swamp, with opportunities to spot wildlife foraging nearby.

  • During the monsoon season, the lake fills with water, and a longboat ride is needed to explore deeper parts of the forest and see wildlife and large tree roots.

  • Local fishermen use Selambau nets, which visitors can try for scooping fish.

  • Lunch is served at the park café.

  • By late afternoon, return to the city.
